Under 30,000 feet of water, the exploration rig Leaguer has discovered an oil field larger than Saudi Arabia, with oil so sweet and pure, nations would go to war for the rights to it. But as the team starts drilling exploration well after exploration well in their race to claim the sweet crude, a deep rumbling beneath the ocean floor shakes them all to their core. Something has been living in the oil and it’s about to give birth to the greatest threat humanity has ever seen.

I had this book on my To Be Read list for a while. I love sea creature stories. I had no idea what type of creature is in the water in The Black, but I NEEDED to read this book, STAT! Just look at that cover? π
The book starts off with a good amount of set up. We get introduced to everyone and what all everyone is doing out on the oir rig in the first place. It does take a bit before things get turned upside down, but that isn’t a bad thing at all! Just a lot of set up. π
There are a bunch of characters. Sometimes I did get a little bit mixed up with some of the side characters….It doesn’t take long to figure out who is who thought. Lots of characters did not ruin the story at all. The cast of The Black are an interesting mix of people.
I was a little unclear at the very end who all survived? The action at the end/ final fight gets crazy! A lot happens, lots of action! I thoroughly enjoyed all the chaos, but do with it was a little bit clearer sometimes.
The narrator has a great voice. Very soothing and easy to listen to. I always enjoy his narrations. He does a good job with accents and everyone always sounds different. There was only one female character, but the narrator did fine with doing a different gender. π
Even though I got a little bit turned around here or there in The Black, I had a blast! Very glad I finally got around to reading this one. π The sea monster is pretty unique and creative. I can’t wait to pick up book #2 soon.
