2020 Reading

I can’t believe 2019 is almost over! This years has gone by so fast, right? As the new year approaches, I’ve been thinking a lot about the reading challenges I still need to finish up for 2019, and what reading challenges to do for 2020.

I enjoy multiple Goodreads yearly challenges, but Goodreads is just one place to look. Just google yearly book challenge and you will find lots of great ones! There is even book bingo! Looks super fun, but I haven’t tried one of those yet.

Popsugar has an epic reading challenge with over 40+ book prompts. It is my favorite to attempt. If you are looking for a true challenge, this is a good one. SO much variety! It’s like a massive scavenger hunt trying to find titles that fit the prompts. It is normally very difficult. I have come close to beating it each year, but have so far fallen short by just a book or two! DOH!

Popsugar prompts have the most range out of all the different type of challenges I’ve tried over the years. A prompt could be as simple as “A book with a red cover” to something a little more difficult like “A book with a zodiac sign or term in the title”. Their challenges really make you get out of your reading comfort zone. Sometimes I don’t even know what type of book the prompt is even talking about and end up having to look it up, like “A litRPG book”. WTF?! (I googled it and I believe I have found a title that will work.) Totally not like anything I would have normally picked to read… But that IS the point, right? To find new things, themes, and authors to try? I still have about 5 prompts to finish up on my Popsugar 2019 Challenge list. Wish me luck on finishing it! 😀

As I’m scrambling around to finish the list by the end of the year, it has made me think about 2020. What is it that I want to do for reading in 2020? I have had so much fun doing the yearly reading prompts, but at the same time, there has been a lot of stuff I’ve been wanting to read that just didn’t fit on any of those lists.

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been looking long and hard at my bookshelves. I try to set my TBR books in a pile so it will (hopefully) stand out and remind me it still needs to be read. I have so many piles of TBR!! Holy crap! When did it get so piled up?? Geez! And I’m not even looking at ebooks or audiobooks yet! Add a ton more from those two formats as well. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck….. 😮

So, I don’t know…. I’m leaning towards 2020 being a promptless reading year. 😮 Woah. It’s been a few years since I haven’t had a list of prompts. It almost feels like I’ve forgotten how to just pick a book for no real reason other then it looks fun. 😮 Like, what TBR book do I even start with?? Do I want non-fiction? Horror? Cozy mystery? Pulp? Action? I have no clue! LOL! Maybe I need to make a long list, all the titles numbered, then use a random number generator to randomly pick. That could be interesting. Or just close my eyes and make a blind grab at a book and whichever one I grab is what I read? Hmm…

Well, however I end up figuring out what book to read, 2020 will be a fun year in books. I’m really looking forward to getting through some of these to be read books. I’ve had so much epic stuff waiting! I seriously can’t wait. 😀
